You want your next year in trading to leave you with something you can build on. GPT-6 Astra in MT5 opens an interesting route: put your trading ideas into instructions, observe the decisions they produce, and develop a process you can actually review.

For example, the Trade Direction setting can restrict entries to long or short trades. That restriction is applied in the prompt and in the EA’s entry checks. Writing “only buy” in a paragraph is a different level of control.
Give your idea something you can check
“Buy a strong breakout” leaves a lot open. What is strong? Which level? What would make the trade wrong? Those questions still matter when Astra is doing the analysis.
Before you touch a custom prompt, write a short decision brief. Here is an illustrative example of the questions to settle, not a tested strategy or a ready-to-run prompt:

You can do this exercise without buying anything. If an idea cannot survive a page of clear questions, spending more on its execution will not resolve the ambiguity.

Keep the work when the model changes
This is the part I find exciting. You can develop your instructions and your way of reviewing decisions while using an implementation that already connects models to MetaTrader.

You can build your own integration if that is the work you want to do. You will need to handle market data, requests, response parsing, order execution and the failures that happen between them.

Look at the decisions to wait as well as the entries. When a trade loses, ask whether the instructions were followed, whether the interpretation made sense, and what the loss reveals about the idea. A winning trade deserves the same scrutiny.
Use a predefined review point and compare records across different conditions. A few days can expose a setup problem; they cannot establish that a strategy has a durable advantage.
