01 / Broker

Choose your broker

Low spreads and fast execution on XAUUSD are essential for gold — otherwise commissions eat your edge.

For retail traders

Tested brokers for EA trading (I use IC Trading in my main portfolio):

For prop firm & funded trader programs
PropFirm features included. Gold Guardian ships Stop on Profit and Max Daily Drawdown protection, making it ideal for challenges. For funded accounts, Axi Select is specifically recommended.
These are affiliate links. I use IC Trading for my main portfolio and Axi Select for funded trading — use them and support me, or don't. Just make sure your broker doesn't eat your edge on gold spreads.
02 / Purchase

Purchase on MQL5

Gold Guardian is a separate product for each platform — buy the one that matches your terminal.

  1. 1Open the product page — use the buttons above for the MT5 or MT4 listing.
  2. 2Click the orange Buy button on the MQL5 product page.
  3. 3Select your payment method (card, PayPal…) and click the green Next button.
  4. 4Complete the payment and confirm your details.
  5. 5Install the EA directly to MetaTrader and begin setup (next step).
03 / Install

Install the EA in MetaTrader

Runs entirely within MetaTrader — no API keys, no WebRequest URLs, no monthly costs.

  1. aLog in with your MQL5 account — the same one you purchased with. Use your MQL5 username, not your email or broker credentials.
  2. bFind Gold Guardian in the Navigator under Market → My Purchases.
  3. cDrag it onto a XAUUSD (Gold) chart. The timeframe doesn't matter — the EA handles everything internally.
  4. dEnable algo trading. The Algo Trading (MT5) / AutoTrading (MT4) toolbar button must be green.
  5. eAllow algo trading in the EA settings — check “Allow Algo Trading” in the settings window.
  6. fSet your risk — Account Balance Percentage and, optionally, the prop firm settings (next steps).
Running 24/7: the EA only trades while MetaTrader is open. Most users run it on a VPS — see Support & resources.
04 / Configure

Configure your inputs

Gold Guardian is intentionally simple — most logic is internal. Your main task is the Account Balance Percentage.

Basic settings
ParameterDefaultDescription
Magic NumberAutoUnique identifier for this EA's trades. Set a different value per EA if running several on one account.
Override Balance with Initial Account SizefalseEnable to use a custom balance for risk calculations instead of your actual balance.
Initial Account Size0Used when Override Balance = true. The account size the EA uses for risk (e.g. a prop firm starting balance).
Account Balance Percentage10Percentage of balance to risk per position via the EA's internal position management. Protective SLs are used mainly for risk accounting; positions are often managed with partial closes to smooth equity.
Monitor ResolutionAutoAdjusts the on-chart interface to your monitor for the best display.
About risk levels. The EA uses protective SLs mainly for risk accounting and manages positions with partial closes to smooth equity — so you can safely use higher risk than traditional EAs.
  • Conservative (2–5%): start on demo and for prop firm challenges.
  • Moderate (10–20%): balanced risk/reward for experienced traders.
  • Advanced (20–50%): test on demo first before going live.
05 / Prop firm

PropFirm settings

Dedicated features for prop firm challenges and funded accounts.

Available settings
ParameterDefaultDescription
Stop on Profit ReachedfalseAutomatically stops the EA once the target profit is reached — ideal for signalling you've passed a validation challenge.
Max Daily DD (Drawdown)DisabledCloses all trades if daily drawdown exceeds your threshold. Modes:
  • % of Account Balance
  • % of Initial Account Size
  • Fixed Amount (USD)
How Stop on Profit works
  1. 1Set your target in the EA settings.
  2. 2The EA monitors profit continuously.
  3. 3Target reached — the EA closes all positions and stops trading.
  4. 4Challenge passed — you've hit your prop firm profit target.
How Max Daily DD works
  1. 1Set your threshold — choose the DD mode and value.
  2. 2The EA tracks drawdown in real time.
  3. 3Threshold exceeded — all trades are immediately closed.
  4. 4Account protected — further losses for the day are prevented.
PropFirm tip: set Max Daily DD slightly below your firm's actual limit to absorb slippage and spread widening — e.g. if the firm allows 5% daily DD, set the EA to 4%.
Recommended prop firm setup:
  • Enable Stop on Profit with your challenge target.
  • Set Max Daily DD to 80% of your firm's actual limit.
  • Use Initial Account Size = your challenge starting balance.
  • Start with a conservative Account Balance Percentage (2–5%).

FAQ

Hard questions, direct answers

It shares the robust core logic of DoIt GBP Master but is specifically tuned for gold's behaviour in trends and ranges. Its risk system compensates losing trades with partial profits from winners for smoother equity. Protective SLs are used mainly for risk accounting, with partial closes to manage positions — fundamentally different from gold EAs that rely on fixed stop losses.

Thanks to the internal risk system you can use higher values than traditional EAs:

  • Conservative (2–5%): prop firm challenges or starting on demo.
  • Moderate (10–20%): balanced risk/reward for experienced traders.
  • Advanced (20–50%): maximum growth — test on demo first.

Tip: start conservative on demo, then increase gradually.

Possible but not recommended. If you do:

  • Set unique Magic Numbers to avoid conflicts.
  • Ensure enough free margin for the risk each EA needs.
  • Consider separate accounts for cleaner portfolio management.

MT5: a green hat icon (top-right of the chart) = running; red or gray = stopped.

MT4: a smiley face = running; a sad face = stopped.

Make sure Algo Trading (MT5) / AutoTrading (MT4) is green in the toolbar.

Any timeframe. Gold Guardian handles everything internally — switch freely on the chart. The only requirement is that you're on a XAUUSD (Gold) chart.

Yes — download the demo from the MQL5 product page and test it in the Strategy Tester: open MetaTrader, go to View → Strategy Tester (or Ctrl+R), select the EA, choose XAUUSD, set a period and run.

Yes. Gold Guardian ships Stop on Profit Reached, Max Daily Drawdown, and Initial Account Size for accurate risk on funded balances. See the PropFirm settings above for the recommended configuration.

No. Gold Guardian uses traditional algorithmic strategies — no AI, no API keys, no monthly costs, no external connections. If you want an AI EA, see DoIt Alpha Pulse AI, which connects to 6 AI providers.
